Very conveniently located for access to the M6 motorway, into Lancaster itself, into Morecambe but also inland into the countryside.
Rooms are the usual fare – clean and tidy but long corridors and a bit soulless.
Food is good.

I went to university here.
I went to university here. Lancaster is a handsome Northern city. NOT particularly pretty but with lots of architectural interest. The food at 'The Merchants' and 'The Quarterhouse' is excellent - and contrasting. It needs good restaurants and both of these are, in there own way, remarkable. Jay Rayner did a fantastic review of 'The Merchants' in The Guardian. He was right. Brilliant food in a nice setting right in the middle of town and also amazing value. It is 'pub prices' for really sophisticated, but 'wholesome' food. BOTH MUST survive, please.

I lived in Lancaster for almost 20 years and I love it.
I lived in Lancaster for almost 20 years and I love it. I still live locally and I went to the hotel as a reward/treat to myself after a significant loss in my life. Lancaster is quite a compact city which is crammed with history and culture and independent shops.

Had a guided tour of the castle which was very interesting.
Had a guided tour of the castle which was very interesting. We also visited the Abbey adjacent. We also like the promenade walk along the River Lune which is easily accessible from the hotel. Lancaster is built on hills so for the mobility limited it can be difficult to walk around. We drove directly to the castle car park for blue badge holders. We ate all meals in our hotel.

Lots of interesting buildings.
Lots of interesting buildings. People really friendly, good variety of shops. Went to a lovely sports bar facing the police station, decor amazing cocktails good too. Lots if restuarants to chose from had a lovely Turkish meal just up road from JD sports .seen some good talent at open mic bar . Will definitely recommend a visit to Lancaster I was pleasantly surprised.
Having read all the reviews we were expecting a high standard, however it for exceeded that with a fantastic welcome, an amazing room and great atmosphere. The room was aired and clean with a 1st rate welcome package. The Gateway can honestly rival any 1st class hotel in the Lancaster area. The bus stop outside means it’s in a prime location for non drivers and there is ample parking outside though. We traveled with our dog and were served breakfast outside in their fantastic garden.
Booked The Lodge for my grandparents who were coming to Lancaster for my graduation. The room was excellent, accommodating for their limited mobility and were able to park the car right outside the room. The staff were extremely friendly and went the extra mile to help set up my grandparents Sat Nav on the day of my graduation. On top of this, the price was very reasonable for the lovely room during graduation week (most other places I looked at were significantly more expensive).
This was the comfiest hotel we stayed in on a 2-week long road trip. The location is good, on the outskirts of the city centre so walkable. Potential noise mitigated by excellent glazing. Food was fantastic, at dinner and breakfast, some of the best we had. Shower and bathroom facilities generally were extremely good and bed was very comfy. Hairdryer was also very powerful. Staff nice and helpful, some seemed new but checked where they weren't sure which was appreciated.
It's the ideal place to stay if one is visiting Lancaster to attend an event at the University. The campus is surprisingly quiet at night. Despite its propinquity to the M6, I found the traffic noise less disturbing than experiences I have had of staying in the city centre. The room is fairly spacious and adequately equipped (it's functional, not luxurious).
Carole and her team run an excellent hotel. Friendly and helpful food and service 5star. Room clean and nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent and the service second to none. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Central location easy to get to shopping, transport and sightseeing. Would highly recommend the place to stay in Lancaster.
Staff were very friendly and helpful, our room spacious and clean, bed very comfortable. We walked into Lancaster City centre along the path that runs along side the River Lune at the back of the hotel. The hotel was very dog friendly so we made lots of furry friends, would definitely stay there again.
Lovely spacious cottage in a perfect location for visiting the university and Lancaster centre. Very comfortable and clean with a good range of kitchen equipment. The host was friendly and communicative and responded quickly to my questions. Nice outside area overlooking the fields.
Location of this hotel is excellent for the centre of Lancaster. All communication for the booking and arrival was very well provided. Check in was easy. The room was exactly as expected, clean and comfortable. Tea making and biscuits lovely.
Would use this hotel again.
Great location. Very nice apartment. Bed a little soft, but able to sleep. Staircase easy to get up and down even though I am 86.
Was quiet outside looking out to a courtyard and a lovely coffee shop opposite.
Would stay again if I am ever in Lancaster again.
The hotel is right in the town centre. Very clean, comfortable and inviting. They went the extra mile with providing us with everything we needed for our stay! The guy at check in was very kind too. This is definitely somewhere we will stay again.
I like the homely feel of the Lancaster House. It I nice and quiet and in the country side. The restaurant and pub provide really well prepared and tasty food. We stayed to visit the university and this hotel is very well located.
The welcome was amazing, the room was beautiful, decor out of this world, the food was 5 star, Shame I only stayed one night!
I will definitely be booking again
One of the best hotels I have stayed in.
Excellent service and our room was great. Breakfast was super and evening meals were also very good. Location for exploring Lancaster was perfect and pay and display car park within yards of the hotel
This Hotel was a great find, and perfect for our transition through Lancaster.
The room was well furnished and clean, the meals were delicious, and the staff were both professional and friendly.
The room was lovely and a great size! We loved the coziness of the pub and sitting by the fire. Lovely walk just down from the hotel! Great for the dog. The staff were excellent.
Excellently equipped and comfortable hotel in the centre of Lancaster. Staff were very pleasant and chatty. Room and bathroom were very clean and bed was really comfy.
